OUR HISTORY
In 1978 my Grandmother opened the first Miners Gems and Minerals in San Diego’s State Historic Park, due to the constant efforts of Eleanor Richards and my parents the businesses is having its 40th Anniversary this year. In that time Miners Gems has become one of the most well know and respectable Lapidary stores in Southern California. In late 2004 Gum Saan was opened with in Old Town State Park, importing only finest quality goods from China, Nepal, Tibet, India and Mongolia. My family started this collection when my grandparents lived in Japan during the 1950’s, at which time my grandfather was a doctor. During this time my grandmother acquired many different pieces that are still in our collection today. Today I travel throughout Asia hand selecting all these unique products. Through our 40 years of experience, our businesses have accumulated only the finest quality goods and countless great relationships between our business partners and wonderful costumers. Namaste.

HELPING SUPPORT OUR FRIENDS IN KATMANDU, NEPAL
Our mission is to support the Tibetan Community, through continuing to find a market for their hand crafted goods. Through various fundraisers and our Buddha Fund we help directly support these important communities.

Many people ask us why our products do not come from Tibet. It is not an easy answer. Tibet is not free. The products that once were produced by these Tibetan artisans are now often made in Chinese factories and none of the revenue benefits Tibetans. We buy goods from various Tibetan families from Kathmandu, helping to employ and sustain a beautiful culture. Our goal is to ensure that these traditional crafts remain viable in the 21st centry and beyond by continuing to find markets for these traditional goods.
