Barrio Donas is excited to announce the arrival of Barrio Donas is excited to announce the arrival of a Mexican donut pop-up shop, offering premium, handmade donuts on Saturdays and Sundays. These delicious treats are a unique twist on the traditional donut, with flavors inspired by the rich culture and history of Mexico.

The pop-up shop, which is located in the Old Town Urban Market, is the brainchild of local entrepreneurs, Jonathan Garcia and Janet Martinez. “I wanted to bring something new and exciting to the market,” says Garcia. “I grew up in a Mexican household, and the flavors and aromas of my childhood have always been close to my heart. I wanted to share those memories with others in a fun and delicious way.”

The donuts offered at Barrio Donas are made with high-quality ingredients and are carefully crafted by Garcia, Martinez, and their team. The menu includes traditional flavors like horchata and dulce de leche, as well as more unique options like hibiscus and churro.

In addition to the wonderful donuts, Barrio Donas offers tamales made in banana leaves, fresh coffee, and horchata (rated by Yelp as the best in California).

“We believe that food is a way to bring people together and share culture,” Garcia says. “At Barrio Donas, we strive to create a ‘buena onda’, a shared space that welcomes one and all. Whether you’re craving café de olla cold brew or a maple bar, we have the best of both worlds!”

The Barrio Donas pop-up shop is open from 9am to 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays, and is the perfect addition to the already diverse offerings at Old Town Urban Market. The next time you’re in the area, be sure to stop by and try one (or more!) of these delicious treats. Trust us, you won’t be disappointed.

Hours – Sat-Sun: 9am-5pm

The Junípero Serra Museum, operated by the @sandi The Junípero Serra Museum, operated by the @sandiegohistorycenter, continues to be an iconic regional landmark located just above Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. The museum sits on one of the most significant historical sites on the West Coast, the site of the first permanent European settlement in what is today the State of California.

The Junípero Serra Museum has completed a much-anticipated renovation that provides visitors with a transformed experience. The new core exhibition explores the earliest history of San Diego, including the stories of the people who lived along the river’s edge since time immemorial, as well as those who came to settle the area and changed and used the river in order to adapt to San Diego’s arid climate.

The new exhibit also focuses on the Presidio as the site of San Diego’s and California’s original European settlement, one that was an active military garrison from 1769 to 1835. Visitors can step back in time to view the Presidio and the Kumeyaay settlement of Kosaii.

The Serra Museum is open Saturday and Sunday 10am – 4pm or by appointment for groups.
